Continuing Education Credits

The Hartford Steam Boiler offers continuing education for agents, brokers and client insurance companies.  HSB currently offers two courses that are eligible for three-hours of Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) in many states.  Our current course offerings include:

• “Boiler and Machinery – It’s Not What It Used to Be” 
• “Indirectly Speaking: The Complete Guide to Understanding Business Income Coverage”

Hartford Steam Boiler offers these courses through the Independent Insurance Agent Association (IIAA) and the Professional Insurance Association (PIA).  Attendance is open to the public and is free of charge.  The courses are offered at IIAA and PIA’s national, state and municipal conferences, as well as on-site for key HSB clients.

“Boiler and Machinery – It’s Not What It Used to Be” is CEU-eligible in all states except:

• Maryland
• Montana
• Wyoming
• District of Columbia

“Indirectly Speaking:  The Complete Guide to Understanding Business Income Coverage” is CEU-eligible in all states except:

• Colorado
• Georgia
• Mississippi
• New Hampshire
• North Carolina
• North Dakota
• Oklahoma
• West Virginia 

“Boiler and Machinery – It’s Not What It Used To Be”

The course objective is to change the mindset of the attendees to help them realize the importance of equipment breakdown coverage for insureds and the benefits to themselves.

The course highlights what’s new in equipment breakdown insurance and how today’s coverage relates to the constant introduction of new technologies. 

Upon completion of the course, the participant will:

1. Be able to identify vulnerable equipment that is susceptible to an equipment failure.
2. Be knowledgeable of frequent losses, exclusion in property forms, common causes and coverages, sublimits, indirect coverages and product flexibility.

Agents and risk managers who know the exposures and how they specifically affect their customers can succeed in eliminating a severe coverage gap.

“Indirectly Speaking:  The Complete Guide to Understanding Business Income Coverage”

The course objective is to change the mindset of the attendees to help them realize the severe threat business income loss poses.  Though this course takes into account agents and adjusters’ awareness of income loss exposures, the instruction focuses on the severity of a business income loss and its impact on a business.

Upon completion of the course the participant will:

1. Be knowledgeable of the business income forms and their interaction with the insurance contracts.
2. Be able to understand the exclusions and conditions in the business income forms and how they impact a business.
3. Be able to comprehend a business income worksheet
4. Understand the importance of a contingency plan and how it affects the insured.
5. Be able to understand how business income claims will affect the overall income of the insured.

After completing the course the agent and adjuster will have valuable information that will help them make educated recommendations for their clients regarding the hidden exposure of Business Income.
