Kitchen Equipment

Depending on the type of hotel, there may be a full kitchen and restaurant or a scaled-down food preparation facility. Hotel restaurants contain a range of refrigeration equipment including refrigerated and freezer walk-ins, icemakers, and reach-in units. Breakdown of freezers, refrigerators, icemakers and reach-in coolers is usually the result of electrical breakdown of motors, or mechanical parts breaking in the compressor. A single walk-in refrigeration unit can cost as much as $10,000.

Breakdown of refrigeration equipment can also lead to business income loss and food spoilage. An added risk is food contamination from leaking refrigerant.

Microwave ovens, commonly used wherever food is prepared, range from $200 to $2,000 for heavy duty, higher-powered units. Their electrical components and controls are vulnerable to power surges and other electrical disturbances. When such damage occurs, complete replacement of the oven is often necessary.
