Equipment Exposures

Hotels

Hotels depend on technology and equipment to deliver the comfort and service their guests demand. Air conditioning and heating, electrical power supply, elevators, food refrigeration and kitchen equipment, PBX telephone systems, security and fire protection systems, TV satellite systems, reservation and billing computers, and other business equipment are critical to operations, with values measured in tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars. Many hotels also have business meeting facilities, swimming pools with associated pumps and heaters and health clubs, all with additional equipment risks.

When rooms are cold or the restaurant shuts down, hotel guests must go elsewhere - sometimes at the hotel owner's expense. Lost room revenue and guest relocation are only two ways owners can lose when equipment fails. Equipment repair, replacement and temporary rental, spoiled food, loss of data and business interruption can add up to very sizeable losses.
