Tony Kuczinski is chairman of HSB Group, Inc. and chief executive officer of Munich Reinsurance America, Inc.  He assumed his position at HSB on April 1, 2009 following the completion of the acquisition of HSB Group by Munich Re.

Mr. Kuczinski assumed his current position at Munich Reinsurance America, Inc. in January 2008.  Previously he was president of the Specialty Markets division of Munich Reinsurance America, Inc. where he was responsible for developing and achieving Specialty Markets’ strategic and business plans.  Specialty Markets is the center of competence for all alternative market business produced within Munich Re.

Earlier he was president of Munich Reinsurance America Inc.'s Insurance Company Operations where he was responsible for the development its primary insurance companies and core insurance capabilities worldwide.

During his more than 18 years with Munich Re, Mr. Kuczinski has held various other positions including executive vice president and chief financial officer for Specialty Markets and senior vice president of Munich Reinsurance America, Inc.  He has over 25 years of industry experience.

Mr. Kuczinski is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, New York and New Jersey State Societies of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters.  He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU). He has completed the Advanced Executive Education Program in conjunction with the AICPCU and the Wharton School. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Pace University.

He is the chairman and a board member of the National School Boards Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that works to promote excellence and equity in public education throughout the United States.

Douglas G. Elliot is president and chief executive officer of HSB Group, Inc.  He joined the company in January 2007 as president and chief operating officer for The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company.  Previously Mr. Elliot was senior advisor for Aspen Insurance Holdings, a global reinsurer and specialty line insurer.  Earlier he was chief executive officer of General Commercial and Personal Lines for St. Paul Travelers Companies.

After five years in the public accounting field, Mr. Elliot joined The Travelers in 1987 as part of that company’s financial management development program.  In 1989 he became part of The Travelers Commercial Lines department and advanced rapidly through a series of positions of increasing responsibility, including; vice president - Commercial Lines Finance, chief financial officer - Commercial Lines, senior vce president - Select Accounts, and chief operating officer - Commercial Lines.  In 2002 he became chief operating officer for Travelers Property-Casualty.  In 2004 he was named chief executive officer of General Commercial Lines and Personal Lines for St. Paul Travelers following the merger of those companies. 

Mr. Elliot earned his bachelor’s of science in accounting from the University of Connecticut in 1982 and is a graduate of the Wharton School of Business insurance executive program.  He currently serves on the boards of Hartford Hospital, the UConn Foundation and the American Insurance Association.  In addition, he is Chair of the MetroHartford Alliance IFS Cluster and a past board member of the MetroHartford Alliance, as well as past Chairperson of the Central and Northeastern Connecticut United Way Campaign.

Saul L. Basch is vice chairman, treasurer and chief financial officer of HSB Group, Inc. the parent company of The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company. He joined the company in October 1995.

Mr. Basch previously had been at Coopers & Lybrand, as partner-in-charge of the New York insurance industry practice and the lead partner for American International Group. He had also served public and privately held companies in a variety of other industries, including pulp and paper, manufacturing, construction, waste disposal and real estate.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Basch holds a B.S. degree from State University of New York at Albany. He is a member of the Society of Insurance Accountants, Insurance Accounting and Insurance Association, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Connecticut, New York and Massachusetts state societies of CPAs, and has taught at the University of Connecticut School of Law.

Susan Ahrens is senior vice president, responsible for human resources at The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company. 

Ms. Ahrens joined Hartford Steam Boiler in 1993 as senior manager of human resources, responsible for employee relations.  In 1994, she was promoted to assistant vice president, in May 1999, she was named vice president, and in April 2005 became senior vice president.

Prior to joining HSB, she held various human resource positions at May Department Stores Company for over eight years. 

Ms. Ahrens earned her bachelor of arts degree in political science from Brown University.  She also holds a senior professional human resources (SPHR) certification. 

Ms. Ahrens serves as first vice president of the Connecticut Valley Girls Scouts Council, a position she has held since 1999.

Greg Barats is executive vice president of engineering services at The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company, responsible for the company’s engineering fee-based businesses.  He was appointed to this position in September 2008. In August 2009, he assumed additional responsibilities for HSB’s inspection services and risk management engineering operations.

Mr. Barats also is chairman and CEO of HSB Solomon Associates, LLC, an energy management consulting company that offers performance improvement services for the refining, petrochemical and power generation sectors worldwide.  He has held this position since 2002.
 
Mr. Barats has more than 25 years of business and technical experience in the global energy and insurance industry.   Before joining HSB Solomon Associates, LLC, he was senior vice president at the American International Group, Inc., now Chartis Insurance.  He also served as chairman of SAIGTAS, a Shanghai-based subsidiary of Chartis that provides engineering consulting services to energy companies in mainland China. 
 
Prior to his tenure with Chartis, Mr. Barats co-founded and operated Applied Earth Technology, Inc., a firm that conducts research, technical and business analysis for oil and gas exploration.  He began his career at the U.S. Geological Survey as a research scientist specializing in geo risk, minerals management, tectonics and stratigraphy. 
 
Mr. Barats holds a bachelor’s of science degree in geology and a master’s degree in business administration from Southern Oregon University.

Michael R. Fusselbaugh is senior vice president for strategic business development for Hartford Steam Boiler's personal lines and agricultural business segments.

Mr. Fusselbaugh joined Hartford Steam Boiler’s Baltimore branch in 1973.  Over the years, Mr. Fusselbaugh has held many positions of increasing responsibility at HSB in corporate marketing, managing the human resources division, mid-western regional vice president, expanding the company's reinsurance relationships with other insurers, managing industry affairs activities and leading HSB’s international insurance division.

Mr. Fusselbaugh holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Towson State College in Towson, Maryland.  He received an associate in risk management (ARM) in 1988, an associate in reinsurance (ARe) in 1999 and the chartered property and casualty underwriter (CPCU) designation in 2001.

Mr. Fusselbaugh is a member of board of directors for the Institute for Business & Home Safety, the board of trustees of the Griffith Insurance Education Foundation and the board of the Greater Hartford Arts Council. He previously served on and chaired committees for a number of industry organizations.  He was elected to NAMIC’s merit society in 1999.

W. MacKay Heckles is senior vice president and chief reinsurance officer of The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company responsible for global reinsurance operations.

He also serves as president of HSB Associates, Inc. and One State Street Intermediaries. 

Mr. Heckles joined Hartford Steam Boiler in 1977. He became an officer in 1983 with responsibility for the company’s reinsurance assumed, pools and associations businesses.  He was promoted to assistant vice president in 1985, second vice president in 1987 and vice president in 1994.  He was promoted to senior vice president, HSB commercial division, in 1996, became head of the company's Specialty Re operations in 1998 and also served as senior vice president of the domestic Custom Accounts Division, from 2005 to 2007.

In addition to his responsibilities at HSB, Mr. Heckles has held a number of positions outside HSB.  He has been a member of the Board of Directors of American Nuclear Insurers and served on the Property Underwriting Committee of ANI.  He was a member of the Board of Directors of the IRM Pool.  He is a former director of the Capitol Housing Finance Corporation.  He served on the IRI Underwriting Committee, the NAII Marketing Committee, AIA Underwriting Committee and is an executive deputy of RIMS.

Mr. Heckles has been a member of the Board of Visitors of the University of Hartford, A.D. Barney Schools of Business and is a member of the boards of directors of the United Church of Christ Insurance Board and United Church Insurance Company.

Mr. Heckles holds a bachelor of arts and master of science degrees from the University of Hartford.

Jeanne Merola is senior vice president of The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company (HSB).  She has been chief operations officer for the Treaty Division since 2005 focused on enhancing operational effectiveness, efficiency and client responsiveness.  Ms. Merola also has overall responsibility for the administrative and process management functions supporting HSB’s insurance businesses, a function she has held since December 2000.

Previously, Ms. Merola was senior vice president and chief administrative officer of HSB’s insurance business beginning in 2000.  Before that she was senior vice president of strategic and business planning for HSB, a position she was appointed to in September 1999.  Ms. Merola joined Hartford Steam Boiler in July 1987 as director of financial information.  She progressed through a number of positions of increasing responsibility as assistant vice president of financial, second vice president and vice president of the company’s commercial insurance operations.

Ms. Merola began her career as an auditor with Coopers and Lybrand in Hartford, Conn. in December of 1975.  She joined Emhart Corporation in 1979 where she held several positions in financial and strategic planning.

A graduate of the University of Connecticut, Ms. Merola holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting.  She is a former certified public accountant.  Ms. Merola is chair of the Saint Joseph College board of trustees and has been involved with the Women of Merit Fundraiser since its inception.  She is a former treasurer for the Connecticut Valley Girl Scouts.

Roberta A. O’Brien is senior vice president, deputy general counsel and compliance officer at The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company, a position she has held since 1994.  Ms. O’Brien joined HSB as an attorney in the law department in 1980.  She was promoted to assistant counsel in 1984 and became an officer of the company in 1987.

Ms. O’Brien earned a bachelor of arts degree in history from the University of Connecticut in 1977.  She received a juris doctor degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1980.  She is a member of the Connecticut Bar and American Bar Associations.

Nancy Onken is executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of HSB Group, Inc. 

Ms. Onken heads Hartford Steam Boiler's Strategic Products Division, which is responsible for identifying, developing and marketing new insurance products.  In addition, she is the senior executive responsible for Hartford Steam Boiler’s domestic claims organization and the company’s policy forms and reinsurance agreements.

Ms. Onken joined Hartford Steam Boiler as an assistant counsel in the legal department in 1989.  In 1995, she was named director of claims, was promoted to vice president and general manager of claims in 1997, and to senior vice president and general manager of claims in 2002.  She was named executive vice president in December 2005 and assumed additional responsibilities as general counsel and corporate secretary in August 2008.

Ms. Onken is a member of the Board of Directors of HSB Group, Inc. (the parent company of Hartford Steam Boiler).  She is also a member of the Board of Directors of TEGG Corporation (a franchisor of electrical preventative maintenance programs) and of Hartford’s United Way of the Capital Area.

Prior to joining Hartford Steam Boiler, Ms. Onken was an attorney with Hoberman & Pollack, P.C. in Hartford, Conn., specializing in commercial and insurance litigation. 

Ms. Onken holds a bachelor’s degree from Smith College, a law degree from the Western New England College School of Law, and an MBA in finance from the University of Connecticut.  Ms. Onken’s bar admissions include the State of Connecticut, the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  She is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association and of the American Bar Association.

Mike Petruzzello is executive vice president and chief underwriting officer of The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company, responsible for HSB's global underwriting operations.  He was named executive vice president in December 2005. 

Mr. Petruzzello has served in a variety of positions since joining Hartford Steam Boiler in 1983. He was elected assistant vice president in 1995, and was promoted to second vice president in 1998. During this time, he worked for London-based HSB Engineering Insurance Limited. Prior to that, he held a variety of underwriting positions in HSB’s Special Risks, Unitech Property – boiler & machinery, heavy manufacturing, and HSB’s chemical, oil and gas operations. 

From 1979-1983, Mr. Petruzzello worked for Industrial Risk Insurers as an all risks underwriter for chemical, oil and gas, and manufacturing operations. He received his bachelor of science degree from Central Connecticut State University. From 1970 to 1973, he served in the U.S. Air Force.

Loren P. Shoemaker is senior vice president at The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company and chief operating officer of the Custom Accounts division.  He joined the company in April 2007 as senior vice president of distribution management and assumed his current position in October 2007.
 
Previously Mr. Shoemaker was vice president - distribution management for The Travelers Companies, Inc.

 
Over the past 36 years, Mr. Shoemaker has had extensive experience in the property casualty insurance industry, particularly in the agent and broker distribution system.  With a wide background in commercial and personal lines underwriting, Mr. Shoemaker has led agency management functions at the field and home office levels of Continental Insurance, CNA and Travelers Insurance.
 
A strong supporter of insurance industry associations, Mr. Shoemaker has served on numerous boards and task forces.  In the Hartford area, he is active in the InVEST High School and Capital Community College education program. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Shoemaker holds a bachelor of arts degree from Franklin & Marshall College.

Anthony J. Trivella is executive vice president at The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company, responsible for the Treaty division. He was named executive vice president in December 2005.

Mr. Trivella joined the company in 1980 as an underwriter. He held numerous increasingly responsible positions, including underwriter, director of field marketing, marketing manager (in the Boston and Atlanta offices), and regional vice president (in the San Francisco office) before assuming his current position. He holds a bachelor of arts degree from Trinity College and a master of business administration degree from the University of Hartford.
