Senior Vice President and Chief Underwriting Officer of The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company

David Mercier is senior vice president and chief underwriting officer for The Hartford Steam Boiler inspection and Insurance Company (HSB), responsible for HSB's global underwriting operations. He assumed his position in June 2011.

Mr. Mercier was named senior vice president and chief underwriting officer for HSB's Custom Accounts Division in 2008. In this capacity he led HSB’s Equipment breakdown field underwriting organization as well as the company’s Specialty Re property group. In 2005, Mr. mercier was appointed senior vice president of underwriting where he led the corporate underwriting referral process for high hazard accounts. He became vice president of referral underwriting in 2000, and previously served in a variety of underwriting management positions of increasing responsibility since joining HSB. Mr. Mercier joined HSB in 1990, and held a variety of underwriting positions.

Prior to his tenure at HSB, he was an underwriting executive at Industrial Risk Insurers.  In this capacity, he led the underwriting of a highly protected risk (HPR) portfolio addressing strategy, retention levels, rating approach, and risk review process.

Previously, Mr. Mercier was a regional director in the boiler and machinery division of Travelers Property and Casualty.

Mr. Mercier received a bachelor of arts in economics from the University of Connecticut and also holds an associate in risk management (ARM) designation.
